Mobile Republic (2013)

A one day residency at Mobile Republic a touring project by AND festival, at Preston Guild.

Visitors were invited to write a message to someone they know and to turn the caravan into a travelling postcard for the day. I was interested in changes in how people communicate with someone they are close with, but who is at a distance, and the relevance of the postcard in a digital age.

Many people wrote messages to friends and relatives. Some people referred to photographs they had put on facebook, and others said they would 'skype soon'. Some wrote messages to deceased relatives and one man wrote to his son who was yet to be born. The caravan also became a record of the day, with messages about the weather, Preston Guild which happens every 20 years, and Jeremy Dellers inflatable Stonehenge 'Sacrilege'.
