Fluctuating
cross wind on runway so didnt try to do circuits, instead started
on Navigation. Flew out to Estuary near Scunthorpe adn back via
Selby, trying to notice landmarks, rivers, railways and towns. the
scale of the map is interesting and being able to see ahead so that
you can tell that the town coming up is Goole and the row of power
stations is where you're going. Saw the biggest peat bogs in Europe
- all divided up for harvesting. Somehow i didnt think they were
still harvesting peat from areas like that, but not sure where i
thought they were. Jane pointed out airfields we passed, i guess
thats important that i know wehre i could land in an emergency. Landing strange,
very difficult to loose height. Whilst flying i forgot to use carb
heat when we descended and had to think really hard to continue
ascending from level flight, but when i got back into the circuit
it all seemed normal and natural and easy. Suddenly flying seems
attainable and possible and i can imagine going on road trips in
the sky. Though i might call the eventual work 'November Juliet'
it feels like its my name now, like 'matter of life and death' where
the radio operator calls him 'G George' and he says "no not
G George, P Peter."
